Free QPR Suicide Prevention Training – Fond du Lac (November 18)
Join us for a QPR Suicide Prevention Training in Fond du Lac and learn how to recognize the warning signs of suicide and take life-saving action.
This free, 90-minute community training will be held Tuesday, November 18, 2025 from 5:00 to 7:00 PM in the Fond du Lac YMCA Board Room, hosted by Fond du Lac Area YScreen and United Way Fond du Lac County.
🧠 What is QPR?
QPR stands for Question, Persuade, and Refer — the three simple steps anyone can learn to help save a life from suicide.
Just as people trained in CPR or the Heimlich maneuver save lives every year, people trained in QPR learn how to recognize the warning signs of a suicide crisis and how to question, persuade, and refer someone to professional help.
Each year, thousands of Americans say “yes” to saving the life of a friend, colleague, sibling, or neighbor through QPR training. The Gatekeeper course can be completed in as little as one hour.
🫶 What is a Gatekeeper?
According to the Surgeon General’s National Strategy for Suicide Prevention (2001), a gatekeeper is anyone in a position to recognize a crisis and the warning signs that someone may be contemplating suicide.
Gatekeepers can be parents, teachers, friends, nurses, faith leaders, supervisors, or anyone who interacts with others regularly.
As a QPR-trained Gatekeeper, you will learn to:
-
Recognize the warning signs of suicide
-
Know how to offer hope
-
Know how to get help and save a life
